DoorKing keypad and intercom repair in Sacramento typically runs $285 to $640 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad face, the circuit board, or the full unit. We stock DoorKing-compatible parts on the truck, so most repairs happen on the first visit. The way owners usually find out: the keypad still beeps but won’t release the gate, the intercom audio gets fuzzy, or a few buttons just stop responding. You punch in the code, hear nothing, and the gate refuses to move.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
We service the DoorKing 1810-series and 1800-series telephone entry systems, the 1601 and 1602 stand-alone keypads, and the 6000-series gate operators that connect to them. The most common unit in Sacramento is the DoorKing 1812 Access Plus, and here’s a compatibility gotcha we see regularly: the 1812 keypad face is not interchangeable with the older 1810 face, even though they look almost identical at a glance. DoorKing changed the ribbon cable pinout around 2016, so a well-meaning DIY swap can fry the controller. To identify your unit, look at the silver tag inside the front panel. The model number and serial are printed there, and the first two digits of the serial tell you the manufacture year. We match OEM DoorKing parts when the controller board is involved, because aftermarket boards on the 1812 have a habit of dropping the directory memory after a power blip, and SMUD service interruptions in older Sacramento neighborhoods make that a real problem. For keypad membranes, buttons, and weather seals, a quality aftermarket part does fine, and we’ll tell you when it’s worth saving the money and when it isn’t.

Signs Your DoorKing Keypad or Intercom Is Failing
- Buttons need hard presses or multiple tries: The silicone membrane under the keypad has worn or torn. Sacramento summers bake these membranes, and once they crack, moisture gets in and the carbon contacts oxidize.
- Callers can’t hear you or you can’t hear them: The intercom board’s audio amplifier is failing, or the speaker cone has dried out. On the 1812, the speaker is mounted behind a grille that lets pollen and road dust in over time.
- Gate opens randomly without a code: This is almost always a stuck relay on the controller board, not the keypad itself. A failing relay chatters and eventually sticks closed, which means the gate cycles on its own.
- Keypad works, but the directory resets or shows lines across the screen: The backup battery on the controller has died and the memory battery is next. Once the controller loses memory on every power interruption, the whole system needs board work or replacement.
- One or two buttons dead while others work: The membrane trace for those keys is broken, not the controller. That’s a keypad face replacement, usually under $200 on the truck.

Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every keypad and intercom repair, so if the problem comes back within a year, we’re back out to make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
DoorKing keypads run on low voltage, but they connect to gate operators that carry line voltage, and the controller board can hold a charge even after power is cut. If you’re just checking basics: confirm the power supply light on the operator is on, make sure the keypad’s wiring harness is fully seated, and clean the keypad face with a dry cloth. That’s where a careful owner stops. Inside the 1812 cabinet, the board connections and the operator wiring are live enough to damage the controller or cause a painful shock if you short the wrong two pins. We’ve fixed more than a few DIY attempts where someone swapped an older keypad onto a newer board and toasted the whole controller, and that repair always costs more than the keypad service would have. If your DoorKing keypad or intercom is acting up in Sacramento, call us and we’ll diagnose it right. The number is (279) 266-8501.
DoorKing Keypad & Intercom FAQs
Most DoorKing keypads last 7 to 10 years in Sacramento before the membrane or board components fail, with sun-exposed keypads wearing out faster than shaded ones. The Central Valley heat is the main killer of the silicone layers. If you’re past year eight and seeing intermittent button failures, it’s usually time for a face replacement rather than repeated repairs.
It depends on the failure: button membranes, speakers, relays, and even many board issues are repairable, meaning we fix the specific component rather than replacing the whole intercom. If the controller board has burned traces or water damage from a failed weather seal, full replacement makes more sense. We’ll show you the failed part and give you both options with written prices. Call (279) 266-8501 and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Most DoorKing keypad and intercom repairs in Sacramento take 45 to 90 minutes on site, including programming your entry codes and testing the gate through a full cycle. The exception is a controller board replacement on older 1810 models, which can run closer to two hours because the directory memory has to be rebuilt manually from your phone list.
We keep common DoorKing 1812 and 1810 parts on our service trucks: keypad membranes, speakers, relays, backup batteries, and complete 1812 keypad assemblies. Our Sacramento service area works in LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls parts too, so the same visit can cover the operator if it’s involved. If your system needs an uncommon DoorKing specialty part we don’t have on hand, we’ll give you an honest timeline before any work starts.
